Travellers are flocking to Uganda's beautiful mountains, trekking opportunities and communities of mountain gorillas. Kampala is now the modern, bustling capital of a new Uganda, Gorillas are the main attraction on the Mountains and parks in Uganda.

Silverback on a StrollUganda a land-locked country in East Africa, has an area of 147,178 square miles and is bordered by Kenya, Sudan, Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania.  Straddling the equator, much of her southern border is dominated by Lake Victoria.  Lake Victoria, and the Victoria Nile, which flows through much of the country, create one of the best watered areas of Africa.  The land varies from semi-desert in the north-east, to the lush and fertile shores of the lake, to the glacier- capped Rwenzori Mountains in the west, and the beautiful, mountainous south-west

Uganda has a heady tropical climate tempered by altitude, December to February sees a small rise in temperatures, with the heat lingering around 29°C (84°F) during the day, and cooler temperatures in the mountains. The rainy seasons in the south are from April to May and October to November, the wettest month being April. In the north the wet season is from April to October.

Mountain gorillas may cover long distances each day and tours can last anywhere between three to eight hours. Tracking gorillas begins with a fairly strenuous walk through the forest up steep and slippery slopes, to where the habituated group were found on the previous day. Other primates you may encounter include red-tailed and blue monkeys, and many troops of chimps. The telltale noise for a gorilla group is often a leaf-rattling crash. Small black arms may be seen extending through nettles, an attempt by a baby to make contact. The silverback male is nearly double the size of the baby’s mother. Some groups have been habituated to humans by conservationists who trained in the nearby Parc National des Volcans
